Pollen
Worldwide, pollen is a problem that impacts people’s lives yearly. The type of pollen varies country to country, and part of season, but grass pollen is a major problem worldwide.
In the Nordics the most common allergenic pollen is from birch, alder and hazel. The allergic reaction that arises is mainly due to the fact that pollen is periodically present in large quantities. Birch and grass e.g. are wind pollinated, which means it is spread with the wind.
Warmer temperatures and higher levels of CO2 make plants grow stronger and produce more pollen than they would otherwise. By 2040, pollen production will be twice as high as today, which will increase the number of allergic people since exposure to allergens makes people more sensitive to them.

Allergic reactions
An allergic reaction leads to various symptoms due to the cause of inflammation of the respiratory tract and / or eyes. An allergic inflammation of the upper respiratory tract causes allergic rhinitis (also called hay fever) with symptoms such as runny nose, nasal congestion, sneezing and itching of the nose.
Inflammation of the lower respiratory tract leads to allergic asthma. An inflammation that affects the eyes is called conjunctivitis (conjunctivitis) and results in itchy and runny eyes. The allergic reactions can get worse over time if the disease is not properly treated.
Pet dander allergy
Pet dander allergy is most common against cats and dogs, but also horses, rabbits and guinea pigs. What triggers the allergic reaction is proteins from sebaceous glands, skin cells, saliva and urine which can easily stick to clothes and furniture and give allergic reactions without direct contact. The allergy is often developed at an early age and if your become allergic to one fur animal the risk is higher to become allergic to other fur animals. Symptoms include runny nose, sneezing, nasal congestion, runny and itchy eyes, asthma and eczema.
Dust allergy
Dust allergy (also known as mite allergy), is found in several parts of the dust, such as traces of fur animals. The allergy is developed in the childhood and has become more and more common in recent years due to our poorer ventilation and better insulation. In mite allergy, the proteins in the mite feces gives the allergy. Mites are often found in beds and storages. Symptoms include itching of the eyes, eczema, nasal congestion, sneezing and asthma.
